I’m on the fence with this concept. I think generally it’s true, telling people to figure it out themselves is not helpful. But I’ve seen a couple scenarios where individuals are aspiring managers, and giving them space to resolve conflict for themselves or their teams has been beneficial. But even then, the manager should tune in, mentor, role play, make sure the individual is well equipped and there’s a clear escalation path if things go south.
